Meet Ravi Bhalla

Ravi Bhalla was born and raised in New Jersey. The son of immigrants who moved here from India to work hard, pursue opportunity, and practice their Sikh faith in peace, Ravi has dedicated his life to advocating for justice, battling discrimination, and making sure every New Jersey resident has a shot at pursuing the American dream.

As a civil rights attorney, Ravi battled discrimination and prejudice in the courtroom.  Nationally recognized for that work, Ravi led a successful campaign to reform the federal government’s visitation policies at correctional facilities nationwide. As an elected Hoboken City Council Member, Ravi helped the city recover from scandals spawning from corruption and mismanagement.

Elected mayor of Hoboken in 2017 and re-elected in 2021, Ravi's innovative leadership, dedication and management skills are moving Hoboken forward. Under his leadership, Hoboken is a go-to destination to live, work, and play, and is recognized as a national leader in preparing for the impacts of climate change, ensuring pedestrian safety, and creating a welcoming  community for all.

In December 2023, Ravi kicked off a campaign for Congress, running as a Democrat against Robert Menendez Jr.

In Congress, Ravi will continue his record of service to our community will be an advocate for New Jersey’s working families as he fights to make healthcare a right for everyone, tackle climate change, protect a woman’s right to choose, and build an economy that works for all New Jerseyans.

Ravi graduated from the University of California at Berkeley received a Master’s Degree from the London School of Economics and earned his law degree at Tulane. He and his wife Bindya live in Hoboken with their two children, Arza, age 16, and Shabegh, age 11.

Ravi will be an advocate for New Jersey’s working families as he fights to make healthcare a right for everyone, tackle climate change, protect a woman’s right to choose, and build an economy that works for all New Jerseyans.
